I recently came across a fantastic bibliography on the topic of Christianity, the Bible, and children. The bibliography is by Reidar Aasgaard. Aasgaard is Professor of the History of Ideas at the University of Oslo in Norway. Aasgaard is also the author of several books that sound fascinating and that I have definitely added to my to-read list, such as Childhood in History: Perceptions of Children in the Ancient and Medieval Worlds and The Childhood of Jesus: Decoding the Apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas.
Aasgaard’s bibliography—which includes everything from Marcia J. Bunge’s The Child in the Bible to Herbert Lockyer’s All the Children of the Bible to Danna Nolan Fewell’s The Children of Israel to Joseph Colle Grassi’s Children’s Liberation: A Biblical Perspective—was originally published by Oxford University Press in the Heather Montgomery-edited Oxford Bibliographies in 2015. However, Aasgaard has also released the bibliography to the general public as a PDF here (backup link here). If you are interested in learning more about how Christians have thought about and treated children throughout history and current Christian efforts to think about and treat children better, Aasgard’s bibliography is invaluable.
